NASSAU NAMI - June 2.
The Fernandina Farmers Market Booth With A Cause program will host Nassau's National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) on Saturday, June 2. NAMI was formed 30 years ago by two mothers who came together to share a secret, both of their grown children had mental disorders. From this beginning emerged NAMI, which is a grassroots, self-help advocacy organization made up of family and friends of those living with mental illness. NAMI's mission is to educate the general public so they will understand that mental illnesses are neurological brain disorders that are no-fault, biologically-based, treatable, and may eventually be preventable. Educational materials will be available to help understand possible solutions and alternative approaches to services/treatment for mentally ill people. At the Market, Nassau NAMI will have raffle tickets available to win a beautifully locally made quilt.
